Replacing HPS with a Compact LED Toplight

A compact led toplight earns its keep in rooms already laid out for double-ended HPS. Gavita built the CT to hang where the old reflectors hung, with a light throw close to what the crop is used to. Retail specs place its flower footprint at roughly 4x4 to 5x5 ft per fixture. Expect less radiant heat at the canopy than with HPS, so leaf temperature will drop at the same air setting. Many growers raise room temperature a couple of degrees after the switch to keep transpiration on track. Watch the first run closely and log runoff, because plants under LED often drink less. Dimming runs from 35 to 100 percent through the EL3 Master Controller, sold separately, over 0–10V and RJ45 links. That lets one controller ramp a whole room at sunrise and pull it back if tops start to bleach. Budget for the controller when you plan the room, since dimming depends on it. It is overkill for a home tent, where commercial input voltage rarely matches the wiring.
